Welcome to Delighting in the Text. This blog was birthed from a desire to record the little gems of truth discovered by studying God’s Word. The blog will aid in an effort to dive deeper in the text and apply Bible study methods I’ve learned through the years. Like they say, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.”
Dr. Lansma, a former professor, once shared a metaphor that has always stuck with me. Here’s a paraphrase: Imagine one day while hiking in the mountains, you notice something shiny. You look and discover that it’s a little piece of gold. So you dig and discover there is more gold. You keep digging only to discover that it’s gold all the way down. That is the Word of God.
It’s true, a person’s mental prowess will never exhaust the Word of God. An infinite God is the reason we can’t fully wrap our minds around the Bible and why we’re always learning something new.
Three main reasons for this blog:
#1- I want more of God’s Word so I can enjoy more of God. I don’t claim to be a Bible expert, but I want to go deeper than what I’m doing now. We know the God of the universe through His Word. It’s almost unthinkable that a God so wonderful would take time to leave us His words to know Him more.
#2- I have a ton of questions when reading the Bible. I was once embarrassed of my questions, now I embrace them as a way to a deeper understanding of these ancient texts. Having a place to record what I discover and someday converse with others is a dream.
#3- I hope this encourages others in their study of God’s Word. I know that when I witness the joy others receive from studying the Bible, it sets a fire in my heart to go and do the same.
“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” Psalm 119:18 (ESV)
